About

Jha’s research combines economic modeling with causal inference to quantify the economic and environmental impacts of policies affecting wholesale electricity supply. His work has been published in leading journals, including the American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of the European Economic Association, Management Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. At Carnegie Mellon, he runs the Energy and Environmental Economics Lab with Karen Clay.

His recent research includes analyses of financial trading in California’s wholesale electricity market, the phase-out of nuclear power in Germany, the growth of rooftop solar in Western Australia, and the determinants of electricity blackouts in India.

Awards & Honors

He is a recipient of the Hicks-Tinbergen Award—awarded biennially for the best paper in the Journal of the European Economic Association—as well as the Heinz College Martcia Wade Teaching Award (2023) and the USAEE Young Professional Research Award (2021).
